Challenge to produce maximum performance
Challenge to produce maximum performance
Bosch and the DTM have been inseparable from the very start, because Bosch regards motor racing as a continuously new challenge to produce maximum performance and perfect quality.
Bosch supplies the DTM Motronic system, telemetric data transfer for TV broadcasting, and many other components that ensure maximum performance and excitement during the race.
The Motronic engine control system is a version specially developed for DTM racing and its high-performance 8-cylinder engines. It is used by all DTM teams. Motronic uses numerous sensors to control all important engine functions of the racing cars, for instance automatically selecting the right ignition settings. That means maximum performance and ideal fuel consumption – since the number of refuelling stops can decide a race.
When a virtual speedometer of a DTM car is dubbed in on the TV screen to show the speed it is traveling at, Bosch telemetry is at work.
Motor racing is teamwork and the engineers at Bosch Racing Service are part of that team. They support engine constructors and motor racing teams from the very first development steps. And they provide more than just the individual components. The essential thing is "system design." When working at the limits of racing car performance, perfect interaction between all components is decisive in gaining the fractions of a second that mean a place on the winner's podium.

Since its launch in 2000, the DTM – the German Touring Car Masters – has become one of the most popular racing series. We are especially pleased that Mika Hakkinen, who will start for Mercedes, is on board this year. Together with Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jean Alesi, that makes three former Formula 1 stars at the DTM.
Two races in Zandvoort, Holland and the A1 Ring in Austria were the beginning in 2001. Today, the DTM is extremely popular on an international level. Five of the eleven races will take place outside Germany in: Belgium, Holland, France, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
